Anna Rourke

Manager, ACE Centre-North

Anna qualified as a teacher in 1986, and spent three years teaching in primary education, followed by seven years in special education, focusing on the needs of pupils with severe learning difficulties. In 1992 she studied a Diploma in SEN / SLD.

Her teaching experience within an SLD school focused mainly on Reception and Year 1 pupils, overseeing their induction and initial assessments in school, as well as establishing relationships with parents, and developing inclusion within and outside the school. During this time, she developed an awareness of the potential of technology to assist learning in her capacity as ICT coordinator.

In January 1996, Anna became the Manager of the ACE Centre-North, which is part-funded by Becta and Oldham MBC. In addition to managing the Centre, she is active in the delivery of the Centre's services including inter-disciplinary assessments, training and the provision of advice and information on the field of assistive technology and has developed her knowledge and skills of the assistive technology needs of individuals with physical and communication impairments.
