Lesley Waddell

UK ICT Development Officer - Education, Royal National Institute for the Blind

Lesley trained as a Primary teacher in Nottingham and gained a BED (hons) Primary Generalist degree, with a specialist subject of Technology and SEN. She then took up a post at All Saints Primary School as a mainstream teacher with responsibility for technology.

For a two year period, Lesley was seconded to the Educational Micro technology Unit (EMU) in Sandwell as an Information Technology Advisory Teacher. Her role involved In-service training, curriculum and resource development and advisory support to Primary and Special schools.

Lesley at this time also worked as an In-service teacher trainer for LEGO where she trained teachers in the use of LEGO and its application across the curriculum.

Later, Lesley took up the post of ICT lecturer at Queen Alexandra College, Harbourne, a vocational college for people with a visual impairment. Her role was to plan and manage the delivery of IT as a core skill to Pre-vocational students with a visual impairment. Here she gained an Advanced Certificate in Education.

Lesley's current role is that of UK ICT Development Officer for the Royal National Institute for the Blind based at the Technology in Learning and Employment Centre in Coventry. The aim is to improve education and opportunity for children with a visual impairment through Project development and management, Policy work in the field of children's education, In-service Assessment and training, Publication and article production. Lesley is currently in her final year of studying for a MEd Professional Studies.
