Norma Perceval-Price

ICT Co-ordinator, Knockevin School, Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland

Norma has taught in a variety of schools in England and Northern Ireland from the mid 70's. Since 1992 she has been in Knockevin School for children with severe learning difficulties in Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland. Currently she teaches the school leavers group.

Over the last 13 years she has developed her interest in ICT and is fascinated by the potential of technology for providing solutions.

Her school leavers Talking Books project (using PowerPoint) was recognised by the Teacher Training Authority (TTA). This material appears on the TTA CD ROM for teachers of Special Needs to identify their training needs.

As ICT coordinator since 1995, she has provided proactive support for colleagues, including maintaining an on line conference and website development. She has delivered training to colleagues both at school and at Education Board level.

She is currently participating in the innovative Dissolving Boundaries project, jointly managed by the University of Ulster and Maynooth University College. She and her students use a video telephone and a conference to plan and develop web-based materials with Scoil Mhuire special school in Tullamore, Co Offaly. This project is also establishing links with teaching colleagues in Ireland with whom formerly there has been little grass roots contact.

Norma is the Special Schools representative on the Teacher Education Group (TEG), which reports to the Educational Technology Strategic Management Group for Northern Ireland.

She is presently studying for an innovative MSc (Educational Technology - On-line and Distance learning).
