Sally Paveley
ICT/SEN Consultant, The Advisory Unit: Computers in
Education
Sally Paveley is employed by The Advisory Unit: Computers in
Education as an ICT/SEN consultant. She has taught in schools for students who
have severe learning difficulties and was an advisory teacher for Information
Technology and Special Needs in the London Borough of Hounslow before she
joined the Advisory Unit in 1990.
Sally is an established consultant in the field of ICT and
special needs. She has contributed to a variety of national and regional
seminars and conferences and is an experienced training provider. She runs
in-service training courses for teachers throughout the year at the Advisory
Unit's Centre in Hatfield, she also provides advice and on-site training for
schools.
Another aspect of Sally's work at the Advisory Unit is
involvement in the development of educational software, materials and
publications. The most recent of these include:
'Concept Plus' - a software package that enables teachers
create overlays to use on screen or with an overlay keyboard to support a range
of learning needs.
'Getting Started with Symbols' pack - the outcome of a 2
year project, supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, exploring the use of
symbols with adults who have learning difficulties.
Materials describing the development of multimedia resources
for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties for the 'IT
Support for All' Pack as part of the DfEE funded Curriculum IT Support for
Special Educational Needs.
Sally has recently contributed a chapter to Blamires (ed):
'Enabling Technology for Inclusion'.
