Sandra Thistlethwaite

Assessment Co-ordinator, ACE Centre-North

Sandra is a qualified speech and language therapist and worked for the NHS for over 10 years, in education, community, acute and social services settings. She set up and co-ordinated the Alternative/Augmentative Communication Service for Blackburn, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley area and was instrumental in developing the service for children with complex communication needs in mainstream schools and young adults in the community. She is a certified Makaton Regional Tutor and Derbyshire Language Scheme Tutor.

For over five years, Sandra has been secretary and active committee member for the North West Special Interest Group in Computers and Communication Technology. This group is open to all professionals, parents and carers involved with people with physical and communication difficulties. It is a forum for keeping up to date with developments in the field and sharing ideas and issues in an informal setting. Sandra has recently joined the Assessment and Training Team at the ACE Centre North. She is Assessment Co-ordinator for The Centre.
