Myra TingleMyra Tingle

Email address: myra.tingle@inclusive.net

Director and Advisory Teacher in ICT/SEN

Myra Tingle started out as an Occupational Therapist but re-trained as a teacher and subsequently taught for 12 years at an inner London school for children with a physical disability where she initiated one of the first examples of inclusive education within a local mainstream primary school. Her experiences contributed to her book, 'The Motor Impaired Child' published by NFER-Nelson in1990 as part of their practical integration series. She sat on the Educational Advisory Committee of the Spastics Society (now SCOPE) whilst this was in existence and is currently a member of the NASEN ICT Standing Committee. During this period, she completed two specialist Diplomas in Education and an MA in Psychology and Education of Children with Special Needs.

Since 1986 Myra has been Director of CENMAC, a London resource centre established in 1968 to assess and support children whose educational progress is hindered by their physical inability to communicate effectively in speech or writing. CENMAC is listed in the original 'SEN Code of Practice' (DfEE) as a centre to which parents and professionals may turn for advice and assessment of individual need. In order to maintain similar support for young people leaving the statutory school system, Myra subsequently set up a Charity, MACE- Micro-Assistance in Continuing Education.

Myra is responsible for the organisation but also shares the delivery of CENMAC's annual training program which focuses on the appropriate use of ICT to support access to learning and is designed to meet the specific needs of parent or professional groups. CENMAC is also one of the seven, newly established, Special Needs 'Window Box' (TM) Training Partners. Myra is currently a Responsible Tutor for 3 Outreach Courses in ICT and SEN offered by the Institute of Education as part of an Advanced Diploma in Education and Psychology of Special Needs.
