Class Teacher and IT Co-ordinator at Meldreth Manor School

"I am a class teacher and IT co-ordinator at Meldreth Manor School, a Scope school for children and young people with severe/profound/complex learning difficulties and physical/medical disabilities aged between 7 and 19 years old. I have constructed programs of study allowing a recordable progression to ICT for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties. I have run regular training sessions as part of the Advanced Diploma Course at the Cambridge Institute.

I have contributed to several books on ICT and SEN, and a number of journals. I am a founder member of the SENIT forum, an internet forum for teachers and specialists in supporting ICT and special educational needs. I have helped devise, assess and test computer software and hardware for SEN. I have used the internet extensively as a tool for teaching pupils with PMLD and I have devised a site which is accessible for switch users and people with sensory and cognitive difficulties. The school internet website has won the Microsoft Road Ahead prize, the Becta special needs site award and the Childnet award.

I have run training sessions abroad and in several centres in Britain on SEN and the use of the Internet.

I teach in classes throughout the school everyday with pupils with severe/profound and multiple learning difficulties. I am used to integrating ICT in the whole curriculum and daily teaching for our pupils and supporting staff in their daily practical use of ICT in the classroom."
