Simon Bloor
Senior Development Officer, ACE Centre-North
Following graduation from The University of Sheffield (BA
Psychology) in 1988, Simon completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education
at Sheffield City Polytechnic and then entered primary teaching.
In order to follow his interest in the use of adventurous
activities in a residential setting for personal and social development he
accepted a post at Fairthorne Manor, one of The YMCA National Outdoor Activity
Centres, as an instructor and tutor in a range of outdoor and field activities
with groups of children and adults with a range of disabilities.
After a period within Further Education, as Learning Support
Co-ordinator at Burton on Trent Technical College, supporting students with a
range of disabilities on mainstream and discrete courses and part-time lecturer
in Psychology and Sports Science, he moved to The Manchester Metropolitan
University. There he held the post of Disability Adviser and as such was
responsible for the co-ordination of all support for students with disabilities
across The University.
Simon took up a post as Development Officer at The ACE
Centre - North some four years ago and now holds the post of Senior Development
Officer, and in addition to being a member of the inter-disciplinary Assessment
and Training Team he has additional responsibility for the co-ordination of The
Centre's training services.
